I was born in the great state of Louisiana and, although not living there since my family moved to Texas when I was two, I thoroughly enjoy going back and visiting, especially for the holidays. There is a simpleness and cracker-barrel ambience about being in Plaquemine, Louisiana that's much different than Nashville. Life moves slower, people take their time and there is a shared feeling of "everything's gonna be alright" that you can only find in very small towns.
The holidays in Plaquemine are filled with fried turkey, naps, football, my mom's collection of Santa Clauses, Obama rants and, since it's right during hunting season, tales of the phantom twelve-point buck that's somewhere out in the middle of the woods. You'll notice that a significant amount of the images I took are of animals or contain animal-related elements. They don't call it "The Sportsman's Paradise" for nothing. And yes, that's a taxidermied bobcat eating a bird. In the living room.
It's good to be back in Nashville, getting back in the swing of things and teaching my new goldendoodle to poop outside in sub-freezing temperatures. I'm looking forward to sharing more photos with everyone in 2010!
